Men Need Healthy DNA Too!
Men Need Healthy DNA Too!

Women think a lot about preconception and health, but what about the guys?? Dad’s DNA matters too, how his lifestyle (Epigenetics) shapes healthy fertility and future generations.

Men’s sperm health is responsible for 50% of the fertility equation. How a mans diet is (high fat? Sugar? Processed foods? Alcohol? Smoking? Stress!!!???) All of these aspects affects the health and conception factors of the sperm. It takes 3 months from the creation of sperm to the point of where it is stored and then soon released. Men’s health 3-6 months before conception influences sperm quality, DNA integrity, and embryo development.

We up to now have always focused on women’s health for fertility and not so much the man— this leaves a critical gap.

So let’s talk and understand about ‘Epigenetics’!

Epigenetics is all about how you live moment to moment. Your lifestyle, which includes the quality of your nutrition, stress, and the developed from that inflammation and toxins that influence ‘gene expression’. When we make changes with our lifestyle this doesn’t alter the DNA code , but it does turn genes on or off. This includes, genes involved in sperm health, detoxification and inflammation.

Sperm carries more than just DNA. Sperm delivers Epigenetics markers (like DNA methylation—turning genes on and off—patterns) to the embryo. These aspects can affect early development, placental function, risks of miscarriage, and disease risk in the child. How a man (like a woman) has exposures to toxins, poor diet, long term stress factors before conception can imprint on the next generation.

Men should be just as concerned about specific genes this would include—

—MTHFR - methylation and folate metabolism for healthy sperm DNA

—COMT - ability to clear stress hormones and excess estrogen (yes, men have estrogen too!)

—SOD2, GSTM1, NQO1 - antioxidant and detoxification support

—FUT2, HFE, IL-6 - Immune modulation, inflammation

—These genes influence sperm motility, morphology, DNA fragmentation, and oxidative stress.

Lifestyles impact greatly genes health and function (turning on and off)—

Smoking, alcohol, poor sleep, high stress, little or NO exercise, and poor diet alter gene expression that is all there is to it!!

Why highlight good nutrition for DNA/Sperm health? Food is how we create energy, keep cells and organs healthy, help to strengthen the immune system to name a few. Does your diet include—methylated B Vitamins? (Do you know IF your system can genetically methylate well?) , Zinc, Magnesium, Omega-3’s, and antioxidant-rich foods support optimal gene function.

What then are the steps for Men before conception?

—Get DNA testing to identify genetics strengths and weaknesses.

—Support methylation, detox, inflammation, and hormone balance (once you know after DNA Testing)

—Address nutrient gaps, sleep, gut health, and stress reduction. (Once you know after DNA Testing)

***Begin at least 3 months before conception - aligned with sperm regeneration.

When you KNOW YOU KNOW!!! Empowerment through KNOWLEDGE

—DNA and Epigenetics insight allows proactive, personalized action.

—Healthy sperm means improved fertility, pregnancy health, and baby’s long-term well-being.
