"The Heat Behind the Flush"

Oh no not now! Why oh why is it happening to me. My face is getting hot and red, I can feel the building of the heat like adding coal to a furnace. NO, NO........not the sweat!!!!! My body is now soaked. As my client on the table asks....."Did you turn the heat up in the room?".......CRAP....
Is this just because I am ageing (in my office I try to be polite and use the term, "As we progress in life")? When I get out of my 'pitty party', thats when I can think again, yep brain fog is real! What is my body 'really' trying to tell me? What are these strange and wild signals that 'hot flashes' are giving us all in the wonderful midlife years?
Hot flashes aren't just random hornonal chaos. They are actually your body's way of signaling that something deeper is really happening inside of your body. It involves how your detox and inflammation pathways need attention. If estrogen can't clear properly , if your liver and your gut are slugish, your body heats up in more ways than one.
There is a big connection between detox and inflammation connection. Our detox pathways, especially including the liver, gut and methylation genes, are the unsung heroes of hormone balance. When they're congested or inflamed, estrogen recirculates, histamine levels spike, and your internal thermostat goes haywire.
When your system is inflammed, like eating out more days of the week you want to count. Too much processed foods and saturated fats. You have to find a way to clear this inflammation and fat in a natural and 'healthy' way. Let's understand this:
Inflammation slows estrogen clearance
Liver phase 2 detox (methylation, glucuronidation, sulfation) is key
When overloaded --> estrogen dominance + cytokine flare --> turns up the heat!
And a big YES, there are certain gene factors that are involved. Like the COMT, GSTM1 and SOD2 can make detox slower, but epigenetics means you can support these pathways through what you eat (better nutrition) , movement (exercise), stress and other factors of lifestyle.
OK, so what is next then?? What can I do to help myself?? Here are some suggestions:
Nutrition:
Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels, Kale, Cauliflower...) for estrsogen detox
Fiber + hydration to flush metabolites
Omega-3's to lower inflammation
Avoid alcohol, processed sugar, and excess caffeine.
Lifestyle:
Dry brushing, sweating, and lymphatic movement
Infrared sauna or gentle PEMF
Prioritize sleep (create a good sleep routine)
Supplement support (general)
DIM or sulforpahane
Magnesium + B vitamins for methylation
Tumeric or curcumin for inflammation
So let's get back to signals. We go through our day and literally do not connect with the feelings deep inside of us. What that means is that we have to learn to 'LISTEN' ! If we did we could learn to work with our bodies so much better. That also means understanding what your gene factors are and with learning you would know exactly what to do. Yes, you are born with an instruction manual!!
Understanding the 'Why' of hot flashes gives control. Think of it this way, it isn't just about cooling off a hot flash - it's about cooling down chronic inflammation, calming your nervous system, and reclaiming your energy and confidence.
Your body's heat is communication, not chaos. When you learn how to detox smarter -not harder - you help your hormones, your mind, and your entire system find balance again.
